China, US militaries maintain working-level contact
The militaries of China and the United States are maintaining contact at the working level on future exchanges, a Chinese defense spokesman said on Thursday.
Jiang Bin, a spokesman for the Ministry of National Defense, made the remarks at a regular news conference in Beijing regarding recent military engagement between the two countries.
According to the ministry, the Chinese and US militaries held the second working group meeting and the annual session of the Maritime Military Communication Agreement from Nov 18 to 20 in Hawaii.
Jiang said the meetings were held to implement the consensus between the defense chiefs of both countries on strengthening communication and exchanges between troops on the ground.
The meetings helped avoid misunderstandings and miscalculations, manage risks and crises, and add positive factors to building a stable and positive military-to-military relationship featuring equality, mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and positive development, the spokesman said.
