Guangzhou Opera House signs new 10-year deal
China Arts and Entertainment Group Ltd (CAEG) and the Guangzhou Municipal Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau signed a 2025–35 operation and management agreement for the Guangzhou Opera House on Nov 9, launching a new decade of collaboration for the landmark venue, one of the world's top 10 opera houses and the first directly operated theater under CAEG's CPAA Theatres.
CPAA Theatres plans to use the new operating cycle to expand cultural work in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, develop a world-class performance hub, foster artistic innovation, and strengthen regional collaboration.
Guo Liqun, General Manager of CAEG, noted that the past 15 years' achievements were rooted in Guangzhou's strong cultural environment. He said the group will continue to integrate global resources, leverage its role in cultural exchange and trade, and work with the municipal bureau to advance the opera house brand and support its growth.
Since opening in 2010 as a pilot project for cultural reform, the Guangzhou Opera House has applied professional management and open tendering, steadily building its reputation as a key arts venue in South China. It hosts the annual Guangzhou Arts Season, presents top Chinese and international productions, and its education program, "A Day With Art," has offered over 3,200 free activities reaching 150 million people online and offline.
The theater also nurtures youth talent through ensembles in choir, ballet, wind, strings, and drama, supporting nearly 26,000 young performers. Outreach has raised single-ticket sales from under 50 percent to over 70 percent and grown active membership beyond 1 million. The opera house hosts major events such as China International Youth Arts Week and the Guangzhou Performing Arts Fair, cementing its role as both a cultural hub and a driver of arts, tourism, and business integration.
