23 killed in fire, explosion in store
A fire and explosion at a convenience store in northwestern Mexico on Saturday killed at least 23 people, including children, and injured 12 others, state authorities said. The fire occurred in downtown Hermosillo, the capital of Sonora state, Sonora Governor Alfonso Durazo said in a video posted on social media. Authorities said a faulty electric transformer may have caused the explosion. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed her condolences on X "to the families and loved ones of those who died".

Incumbent leader wins presidential election
Tanzania's incumbent President Samia Suluhu Hassan of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi party has won the presidential election, securing 97.66 percent of the vote, the Independent National Electoral Commission announced on Saturday. Hassan thus became the country's first elected female president. She previously served as vice-president from 2015 to 2021 and first assumed the presidency in March 2021 following the death of then-president John Magufuli from heart disease, marking a historic milestone as Tanzania's first female head of state. Tanzanians went to the polls on Wednesday in general elections.
