Shui communities celebrate Gua Festival in Guizhou

In late October, residents of Shui ethnic group in Rongjiang county, Guizhou province, dressed in festive attire to celebrate Gua Festival, which marks the end of the autumn harvest.
In Yayong village, locals invited neighboring residents from Miao ethnic group to join the festivities, played lusheng pipes, and held a pumpkin-eating contest.
Gua Festival is the Shui people's largest traditional celebration. Each year after the harvest, communities choose an auspicious day to give thanks for the season's crops and to pray for favorable weather, good health, and prosperity in the year ahead.
