Xu Jiaying, a runner from Shanghai who also participated in the marathon last year, said: "I think this year's marathon is better because the whole track is cleaner."

Zhanglan, the third-place winner in the women's half marathon, from Sichuan of Southwest China, indicated that what impressed her most was the newly introduced eco-friendly initiatives, encouraging participants to bring their old clothes and raincoats to reduce waste on the track.
