China and the United States have reached preliminary consensuses on key issues including export controls, the extension of the 90-day tariff truce, fentanyl-related tariffs, the expansion of bilateral trade and US port fees, a senior Chinese official said on Sunday.

Li Chenggang, China's international trade representative at the Ministry of Commerce, told reporters the talks were "constructive" following the conclusion of the China–US economic and trade talks — the fifth since May — in Kuala Lumpur.

The negotiations in Malaysia came at a time when the already-extended 90-day tariff truce is set to expire on Nov 10.

The talks, which started on Saturday, took place at Merdeka 118, the world's second-tallest building.
