"The Bund is a unique cultural landmark in Shanghai that combines the traditional and the modern," Huang, who also help organize the festival, added. "We expect the festival taking place here to break boundaries and to connect Chinese and global musicians as well."

Among the big names performing at the festival is Jon Faddis, one of the most celebrated jazz trumpeters worldwide. Born in 1953, Faddis began playing at age seven, and his distinctive trumpet appears on hundreds of records and numerous soundtracks for film and television.

Describing jazz music as "spontaneous, historical and emotional", Faddis believes the genre can break down barriers and help build connections among global audiences.
