President Xi Jinping has called on China and Dominica to consolidate political mutual trust, strengthen exchanges and deepen pragmatic cooperation, in order to elevate bilateral relations to a higher level.

He made the remarks on Tuesday when meeting with President of Dominica Sylvanie Burton in Beijing.

Xi noted that China and Dominica have set a good example of friendly cooperation between countries of different sizes and with different social systems. The two nations should strengthen exchanges on governance experience and enhance interactions between governments, legislatures and political parties, he said.

China stands ready to continue supporting the Caribbean country in improving its capacity to address climate change, and in preventing and mitigating disasters, Xi said.

He also called for deepening cooperation in areas such as infrastructure, clean energy, healthcare, agriculture and women's empowerment, as well as promoting closer people-to-people exchanges in culture, education and tourism.

Noting that Dominica and China share common values and aspirations, Burton said that deepening bilateral relations will deliver a bright future for the people of her country.

Dominica is willing to work closely with China to oppose unilateralism and hegemony, and to safeguard the common interests of developing countries, she added.
