JD woos shoppers with Singles Day deals, boosts sales

Chinese e-commerce giant JD has simplified promotional methods and provided direct price cuts and shopping subsidies for consumers during this year's Singles Day shopping carnival that kicked off at 8 pm on Oct 9.
The number of active users on the JD app surged 47.6 percent year-on-year between Oct 9 and 10, while orders for home appliances, mobile phones, digital products, and computers soared to more than 70 percent year-on-year as of Tuesday noon.
Artificial intelligence-powered hardware, smart robots, and 3D printers also saw robust growth. Data from JD showed that sales of smart robots jumped fivefold year-on-year between 8 pm on Oct 9 and Tuesday noon, while the turnover of AI glasses rose more than threefold year-on-year.
The transaction volume of AI tablets skyrocketed by 200 percent and 3D printers increased 120 percent from a year earlier, while both AI smartphones and AI learning devices experienced 100 percent growth in turnover.
Sales of newly launched home appliances and home furnishing products surged more than fourfold year-on-year, while over 1,000 household appliance brands saw their sales more than double, JD said.
Moreover, nearly 2,000 apparel, beauty, and sports brands witnessed their turnover jump over 200 percent year-on-year.
