The importance of implementing the Global Governance Initiative, proposed by President Xi Jinping, was highlighted on Monday as Premier Li Qiang met separately with Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama and Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, both of whom attended the opening of the Global Leaders' Meeting on Women in Beijing.

During his meeting with Mahama, Li emphasized the long-lasting traditional friendship between China and Ghana.

Reiterating China's firm support for Ghana in pursuing a development path suited to the African country's national conditions, he said that Beijing is willing to continue enhancing high-quality cooperation with Accra on joint construction of the Belt and Road and deepening collaboration in the fields of trade, infrastructure and energy.

Noting that both China and Ghana are important countries of the Global South, Li underlined the need for the two nations to intensify coordination and cooperation and work together to uphold multilateralism and free trade.
