Meitu Inc, a Chinese tech company known for its popular image-editing app and content-sharing software, is doubling down on generative artificial intelligence technology to improve the production efficiency of the imaging industry.

The company has integrated AI into some of key scenarios, according to Wu Xinhong, founder of Meitu, such as research and development, design, and operation. Meitu has also built an AI agent, a model context protocol (MCP) service platform, and an AI translation platform to help employees use AI-powered tools more efficiently.

To seize the new opportunities brought by AI in the imaging sector, Meitu has launched an internal AI innovation studio. The studio encourages employees to form small teams and turn their ideas into reality by utilizing the company's resources, Wu said, adding that currently, they have established five AI innovation studios.

Wu made the remarks at an internal meeting of Meitu's 17th anniversary on Friday, highlighting that there are tremendous opportunities in the global imaging industry, and that the staff should actively embrace AI productivity tools.

"A large number of small and medium-sized businesses, content creators and individual users are facing high labor costs when producing and updating visual content," Wu said. "These specific scenarios are exactly where AI tools can offer efficient solutions."

The company has recently launched RoboNeo, a creative Al agent that supports natural language interaction for image editing, image generation and video production. The app eclipsed one million users in its first month of availability, ranking among the top 10 app download charts in more than 10 countries.
