On the occasion of the grand opening of Furniture China 2025, Shanghai New International Expo Centre has reached a significant milestone with its total leased space surpassing 100 million square meters since its opening in 2001.

SNIEC, as the first exhibition center jointly operated by China and Germany, laid its foundation stone in 1999. The annual leased area was less than 1 million sq m when it started operations in 2001. But nowadays its leased space exceeds 6 million square meters annually. SNIEC hosts more than 110 expos, attracting more than 6 million visitors every year, and has become one of the world's busiest exhibition venues.

In recent years, SNIEC has embarked on a path of high-quality development through service innovation, brand building and the establishment of a robust safety system. It has built strong relationships and trust with domestic and overseas industry associations and organizers, making significant contributions to the convention and exhibition industry in Pudong New Area.

Behind this huge number is the result of successfully hosting more than 2,100 high-quality exhibitions and the tireless efforts of SNIEC's staff working more than 8,000 days and nights.

Over the past 24 years, SNIEC's development has paralleled the growth of the vibrant Pudong New Area, driving regional economic advancement and enabling people from home and abroad to discover, understand and fall in love with Shanghai.

"It's not just a milestone. We are proud to have reached this number as very few venues worldwide have achieved it. This accomplishment was only possible thanks to our fully committed team," said Michael Kruppe, general manager of SNIEC. "Meanwhile, all this would not have been possible without the enormous support from our customers and the expo organizers. It's not just about support, it's about trust. Trust is something you have to earn over a long period, and I believe that it is exactly what we are celebrating here today."

Kruppe also expressed gratitude to all the parties that have supported SNIEC's development over the past 24 years, including local governments, agencies, shareholders, visitors and exhibitors.

"I am confident that event organizers, exhibitors and visitors will continue to choose SNIEC, allowing us to reach the 200 million sq m mark even sooner than in the next 24 years," said Kruppe.

“SNIEC is one of the most important contributors helping Shanghai become the global exhibition hub. The organizers, including us at the Shanghai Sinoexpo Informa Markets International Exhibition have benefited from SNIEC's growth. We anticipate adding an additional 200,000 sq m of exhibition projects in SNIEC and look forward to the SNIEC investors and the Pudong government further enhancing the quality and efficiency of exhibitions. This support will be crucial for SNIEC to achieve its goal of reaching 200 million sq m of exhibition space," said Wang Mingliang, founder and director of Shanghai Sinoexpo Informa Markets International Exhibition.

"As one of the main venues in the Pudong New Area, SNIEC has been instrumental in advancing the internationalization, service enhancement and branding of the exhibition industry in Pudong New Area. With over 20 years of operation, SNIEC hosts exhibitions that account for 80 percent of the total exhibition area in the Pudong New Area and one-third of the total in Shanghai. Known in the industry as one of the busiest venues in the world, SNIEC is also acclaimed as 'the most successful venue in China'. Congratulations to general manager Michael Kruppe, deputy general manager Zhang Yao and their team for their outstanding achievements," said Cao Lei, deputy-director of Shanghai Pudong New Area Commission of Commerce.

Looking ahead, SNIEC will continue to provide quality and safe pavilion services to further enhance service quality and support businesses in achieving the dreams of organizers and exhibitors and creating endless possibilities.

SNIEC will attach greater attention to sustainability, innovation and digitalization to drive the development of the exhibition industry. We are eager to collaborate with both our new and long-term partners to empower and innovate together, helping to create a regional economic growth hub and jointly shaping a future of high-quality, sustainable development in the exhibition industry.
