Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian has dismissed the accusation of a US politician and voiced China's opposition to the dissemination of disinformation.

News reports said Utah Governor Spencer Cox has cited China for "trying to instill disinformation and encourage violence" following the fatal shooting of US conservative political activist Charlie Kirk.

China condemns all illegal violent activities, Lin said in response on Friday.

"In the meantime, we firmly oppose some US politicians making an issue of China," Lin added.

"We firmly oppose dissemination of disinformation to slander and smear China."
