More than 80 killed in overnight rebel attack
At least 80 people were killed overnight from Monday to Tuesday in an attack blamed on Allied Democratic Forces rebels in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, local authorities confirmed on Tuesday. The attack targeted a funeral gathering in the village of Ntoyo, said Colonel Alain Kiwewa, administrator of Lubero territory in the eastern North Kivu Province, putting the provisional death toll at around 80. The ADF, an Islamic State affiliate in Central Africa, has escalated assaults on villages in North Kivu and Ituri provinces in recent months, mainly targeting civilians.

Trump fails to overturn $83 million verdict
A federal appeals court on Monday upheld a civil jury's finding that US President Donald Trump must pay $83.3 million to E. Jean Carroll for his repeated social media attacks and public statements against the longtime advice columnist after she accused him of sexual assault. The 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan rejected Trump's argument that the verdict should be overturned because he deserved presidential immunity.

EU clamps down on food waste, fast fashion
EU lawmakers gave a final green light on Tuesday to a law on slashing back food waste in Europe each year, and curbing the environmental impact of so-called fast fashion. Brussels estimates the 27-nation bloc generates around 130 kilograms of food waste per person each year — adding up to 60 million tons — as well as around 15 kg of textile waste. By 2030, EU countries will have to slash by 30 percent the food waste generated by households, retailers and restaurants, compared to 2021-23 levels.
