Portuguese prime minister to meet with Xi
President Xi Jinping will meet with Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro during the European leader's three-day official visit to China starting from Monday.
Montenegro will also hold talks with Premier Li Qiang and meet with Zhao Leji, chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, separately.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a regular news briefing on Friday that China and Portugal enjoy a traditional friendship and the two countries have obtained positive outcomes in bilateral exchanges and cooperation in business, trade and other fields, bringing concrete benefits to the two peoples.
Noting this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, Guo said China hopes to work with Portugal to take Montenegro's visit as an opportunity to promote greater development of bilateral ties.
Top political advisor meets ethnic minority representatives
China's top political advisor Wang Huning on Friday called for active participation in the cause of ethnic unity and progress in the new era.
Wang, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks when meeting with a delegation of 149 representatives of ethnic minorities from across China.
Wang urged the representatives to take the lead in carrying forward the great spirit of patriotism and fostering a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation.
He also expressed the hope that they would take the lead in promoting common prosperity for all ethnic groups, driving high-quality development in ethnic minority areas, and safeguarding national unity, ethnic unity and stability in border areas.
