State Grid Zhenjiang Power Supply Company installs 'smart electricity manager'

To better monitor residents' electricity usage, on Aug 27 in the Dushi Qingyuan community of Jurong, Zhenjiang, Jiangsu province, workers from the State Grid Zhenjiang Power Supply Company installed a new intelligent measurement switch, known as a "smart electricity manager", on residents' electricity meter boxes.
This smart device can monitor electricity usage in real time, detect potential risks such as abnormal lines and overloads, and provide early warnings before faults occur. It is expected to shift grid maintenance toward prevention and enhance the reliability of electricity supply.
In the past, it was difficult to monitor the health of community distribution lines in real time. Hidden issues such as line aging and poor contact could not be detected in advance, often leading to outages, tripping or equipment damage.
These problems not only disrupted residents' daily electricity use but also posed safety risks. Traditional maintenance relied on periodic manual inspections and user reports, which were inefficient and lacked accuracy.
The new intelligent measurement switch, using high-frequency data collection technology, can monitor dynamic changes in voltage and current in real time and accurately capture abnormal signals in power supply lines. Through intelligent system analysis, once a potential issue is identified, the system immediately reports it, allowing maintenance personnel to intervene early and make targeted repairs during off-peak hours. Such effort can address safety hazards without disrupting residents' electricity use.
Since its pilot launch this year, the smart device has guided 80 targeted hazard inspections and prevented 20 outages. It has effectively reduced energy loss and strengthened the safe and stable electricity supply for residents.
