Minhou county taps into overseas goldfish industry

Minhou county in Fuzhou city, East China's Fujian province, is renowned as the birthplace of China's goldfish industry. Numerous highly ornamental goldfish varieties have been cultivated through its unique water quality, climate conditions and breeding techniques, attracting a large consumer base. Breeding a new type of goldfish takes at least two to three years and at most ten years, with some of the most stunning varieties fetching over 10,000 yuan ($1,398.14) at their prime viewing stage, typically between one and three years of age.
A distinctive goldfish industrial chain has been formed, encompassing not only breeding but also related merchant products and supporting items. Goldfish from Minhou county have expanded into overseas markets, especially in Southeast Asia, driven by e-commerce and live-streaming promotions, showcasing a promising market prospect.
