After months of bombardment, some students have died, said Suhail Khoury, the president of the conservatory. The victims also included 14-year-old violinist Lubna Alyaan, who was killed along with her family early in the war.

The school's old home lies in ruins, according to a video released in January by a teacher. Walls had collapsed and rooms were littered with debris. A grand piano had disappeared. Three girls and a boy sat in a guitar class at the Gaza College, whose walls bear shrapnel scars, while the windows had been blown out.
