Death toll rises to 23 in factory fire in central Russia

MOSCOW -- The death toll has risen to 23 after a fire broke out at a production facility in central Russia's Ryazan region, local media reported on Monday.

Earlier, the regional operational headquarters said that 20 people were killed and 134 others were injured in the accident.

A fire erupted on Friday morning at a factory in Lesnoy, Shilovsky district, according to the headquarters.

An investigation has been launched into a breach of industrial safety requirements in connection with the incident.
