Thousands of quake-hit Xizang residents move into new homes

The post quake-disaster reconstruction work in Dingri and other counties of Shigatse city in the Xizang autonomous region has achieved periodical progress, with 2,578 households of more than 12,000 quake-affected residents resettled into their new homes on Friday.
A move-in ceremony was held at Zingkar village, Dingri on Friday, with hundreds of villagers, construction workers and officials gathering to celebrate the completion of the new houses.
The 2,578 households are the first batch of affected people to move into new homes after a 6.8-magnitude earthquake, which struck Dingri county and nearby areas on Jan 7, claiming 126 lives and destroying thousands of homes.
According to the constructors, the design of the reconstructed houses takes into account the living habits and actual needs of local residents, while supporting infrastructure including solar power, water, electricity and internet are provided in the new resettlement communities.
