Chuzhou, Anhui: Energy storage stations gear up for peak summer with 'Full Renewal'

Ensuring adequate power supply to meet the peak demand is paramount during the blazing summer days, impacting both the well-being of the populace and serving as a crucial cornerstone for stable economic growth. To guarantee reliable power supply and ensure that residents enjoy a cool summer, personnel from the State Grid Chuzhou Power Supply Company conducted adaptability testing of energy storage equipment for new energy grids and inspected booster station equipment at Kunyu Energy Storage Power Station, located in Tianchang city, Chuzhou, Anhui province on July 25.
This "super power bank" encompasses both a 220 kilovolt step-up substation and a 500 megawatt/1,000 megawatt-hour energy storage power station, capable of delivering 15 million kilowatt-hour of clean electricity annually, sufficient to meet the yearly electricity demands of approximately 7,500 households. This is equivalent to a reduction in the consumption of 4,700 tons of standard coal and a decrease in carbon dioxide emissions by 14,500 tons.
During the summer peak period, energy storage stations accumulate clean energy from sources like wind power and photovoltaics during off-peak hours, enabling the unified storage and standby of green energy. When electricity demand spikes, they discharge to meet the peak demand, effectively contributing to safe and stable power supply during the summer peak season.
Energy storage is a cornerstone technology of the energy revolution, playing an increasingly vital role in the construction of the new power system. Facing new challenges and tasks, the State Grid Chuzhou Power Supply Company will continue to advance the comprehensive and deep integration of energy storage with the power grid, driving the green and low-carbon transformation of the region's energy sector.
