Anhui farmer awarded title of role model

Xu Congxiang, a pioneering farmer of the new era from the eastern province of Anhui, was awarded the title "Role Model of the Times" by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee on Wednesday. Born in 1953, Xu is currently the Party secretary of the modern agricultural science and technology experimental demonstration base in the province's Taihe county. As a Taihe native, Xu's roots in the rural area run deep. His connection to the county fuels his efforts to promote agricultural development through science and technology. He has cultivated excellent crop varieties, improved cultivation methods, and transformed weather-dependent fields to produce high-yield harvests. His work has led to improved crop success for numerous farming families, making a positive contribution to national food security.

Guizhou official probed for violations

Wu Shenghua, a senior official in Guizhou province, is under investigation for suspected severe violations of Party discipline and national laws, China's top disciplinary watchdogs said on Thursday. The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China and the National Commission of Supervision announced the investigation on their website. Public information shows that Wu, born in 1966, spent most of his career in Guizhou in various positions, including head of Guiding county, governor of Qiannan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture, and vice-governor of the province. In April 2022, Wu was appointed to the Standing Committee of the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee, and a month later became Party secretary of Bijie city. He held both posts when the investigation was announced.
