China’s top market regulator announced on Friday that it has summoned major platform companies, including Ele.me, Meituan and JD, urging them to strictly comply with laws governing e-commerce, competition, and food safety in an effort to promote fairer market practices and raise industry standards.
The State Administration for Market Regulation stated that the three companies must take primary responsibility for addressing issues, correct irregular promotional activities, and avoid engaging in irrational competition.
According to the regulator’s statement, the move is intended to foster a healthier ecosystem that benefits consumers, merchants, delivery workers, and the platforms themselves.
