Shi Yi, the first locally bred second-generation giraffe in Wuhan, Hubei province, born in 2023, has recently been promoted to "big brother" this summer. Its younger brother Wang Yuan was safely born on June 23, 2025. [Photo provided to chinadaily.com.cn]

According to the kingdom, the mother giraffe is in excellent postpartum condition, displaying strong protective instincts toward her calf. She stays close, tenderly licking and caring for him. Meanwhile, Wang Yuan nestles gently under his mother's belly.

Their successive births mark continuous breakthroughs for the kingdom in the breeding and rearing techniques of rare species like giraffes.

To date, the park has successfully bred four giraffes locally, further solidifying its achievements in giraffe reproduction within China.

A dedicated team is monitoring the calf's growth and the health of mother and baby around the clock to ensure the most scientific care. Wang Yuan will meet visitors this summer.
