US students explore Shenyang's cultural gems

A group of 14 students and teachers from Northeastern Illinois University in the United States recently took part in a cultural exchange trip in Shenyang, Liaoning province, as part of the Luminous Bridge — China Tour.
The trip lasted several days, during which the visiting students connected with students from Shenyang City University and forged deep friendships.
The American participants immersed themselves in a diverse array of Chinese cultural experiences. At Shenyang's Peking Opera Theatre, American teacher Jennifer Lasko expressed excitement after witnessing a performance, noting the striking differences in movements, costumes, makeup, and stage presence compared to Western theater.
Students also received hands-on experiences with Peking Opera makeup and traditional Chinese cuisine.
Sports and artistic exchanges were equally captivating. During basketball games, the Chinese and American students showcased seamless teamwork, with mutual support and encouragement deepening their understanding of each other.
At a festive evening event, students from both nations sang together and presented various performances, including dance, Peking Opera, and flute solos.
Through photography courses and visits to local sites, like the China Industrial Museum and Xita Street, students furthered their cultural exploration.
The program concluded with a discussion wherein American student Marchele Alber expressed delight in realizing her dream of visiting China and forming friendships, while Chinese student Wei Changdi highlighted the enduring bridge of friendship between the two nations.
The event was organized by the Liaoning Provincial People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the Liaoning Provincial Department of Education, Shenyang City University, and Northeastern Illinois University.
