Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) began a trend in ceramic designs in his imperial workshops that incorporated Western techniques. Blooming peaches were his favorite motif.
An impressive famille rose plate exemplifying Yongzheng's artistic creativity recently sold for 42.55 million yuan ($5.93 million) at Poly Auction's spring sale in Beijing.
The plate is decorated with an opaque rose glaze that delivers understated beauty. It was among the fine arts and crafts that dazzled collectors during the online and offline event.
The auction's sales grossed 505 million yuan, and 40 percent of the transactions were made online.
