With China playing an increasingly vital role in the global chemical industry, the Association of International Chemical Manufacturers (AICM), a global industrial organization, released its new vision, mission and values earlier this week to align with evolving industry trends and promote sustainable development.

Xia Fuliang, AICM's chairman, said the association has been closely monitoring the ever-changing environment in the chemical industry and the evolving expectations of stakeholders.

In this context, Xia said it is essential to renew AICM's core tenets - its vision, mission and values.

"Through this initiative, we aim to further underscore AICM's commitment to driving sustainable development in the industry and contributing to a prosperous, stable, and responsible growth trajectory for the chemical sector," he added.

The updated vision of AICM underscores its commitment to promoting sustainable and high-quality development in China's chemical industry. It aims to foster collaboration between member companies, regulators and stakeholders to drive innovation, ensure safety, and support the country's dual carbon goals, said the association in a statement.

Its new mission focuses on enhancing policy advocacy, promoting best practices in environmental protection and safety, and supporting the localization and long-term growth of international chemical companies operating in China. AICM also seeks to strengthen industry standards and facilitate constructive dialogue with the Chinese government.

The statement said AICM's core values; integrity, independence, responsibility, innovation and leadership - reflect its dedication to building a more resilient and sustainable chemical ecosystem. The association will continue to serve as a bridge between the international chemical community and China, helping drive industrial modernization and global integration.

Since its establishment in 1988, AICM has represented many of the leading multinational corporations operating in China's chemical industry.

With the unveiling of its renewed strategy, AICM has pledged to take a leading role in shaping the future of the chemical industry in China and globally by advocating for science-based, cost-effective policies, promoting sustainability and strengthening collaboration among its stakeholders.
