Measures to safeguard railway transport
New and innovative means to battle flood hazards to safeguard smooth rail transport have been introduced by China Railway Taiyuan Group. The rail operator has divided its management areas into "grid" units, increasing personnel patrols on line equipment since the beginning of the flood season on May 15. Its Taiyuan South Engineering Section is using virtual reality and drone technology to conduct topographic surveys, monitor terrain changes and assess flood risks, in addition to real-time monitoring of geological disasters such as landslides and falling rocks along the railway lines. Additionally, it has established an information-sharing mechanism with local meteorological and water conservancy bureaus, targeting situations that may affect railway safety.
