The activities of Chinese military vessels in relevant waters are fully consistent with international law and practices, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian has said.
Lin made the remarks on Monday, after reports said the Japanese government has confirmed the voyage of the Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning in the Pacific waters near Japan.
"China pursues a national defense policy that is defensive in nature," Lin said at a regular news conference.
"We hope Japan will view these activities objectively and rationally," Lin said.
