During the three-day-long Dragon Boat Festival ending Monday, Shanghai reported nearly 20 billion yuan ($2.78 billion) in total online and offline spending thanks to diversified consumption activities and promotions, according to official sources.

Total expenditure made on online platforms and in physical stores during the first two days of the three-day holiday saw a 4.1 percent year-on-year growth, indicated the Consumer Market Big Data Laboratory (Shanghai).

Among 19 major business districts, the consumption amounted to 1.36 billion yuan, reporting positive year-on-year growth, said the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce.

Across the city, the departure tax refund sales rose about 1.1 times in comparison with the same period of last year.

Thanks to the trade-in policies, sales of home appliances and furniture, as well as digital products, surged 18.2 percent to 780 million yuan compared with the pre-holiday period.
