New president takes oath, calls for 'change'
Nicusor Dan assumed office as president of Romania on Monday, following a swearing-in ceremony in the country's Parliament. In his inaugural address, Dan emphasized the need for "fundamental change" within the framework of the rule of law. He called on citizens to maintain "positive pressure" on state institutions to drive reform and pledged to remain receptive to public voices. "Romanian society has proven itself to be alive and strong," Dan said. "I will be a president open to the voice of society and working as a partner with society." The 55-year-old independent candidate secured 53.6 percent of the votes in the presidential runoff on May 18.

Police slap travel ban on former leaders
South Korean authorities have imposed travel bans on two former acting presidents as part of an investigation into ex-leader Yoon Suk-yeol's December martial law bid, Yonhap news agency reported on Tuesday. "Police said on May 27 that former prime minister Han Duck-soo and former finance minister Choi Sang-mok have been banned from leaving the country as they are being investigated as suspects in an insurrection case," Yonhap reported, adding the ban came into effect in mid-May. The police special investigative unit summoned Han and Choi for questioning on Monday.
