China, Netherlands to maintain close communications on chip sector

China and the Netherlands, which are "highly complementary" to each other in the semiconductor industry, will remain in close communications through current channels, a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman has said.
Both countries benefit from bilateral cooperation in the industry, the ministry's spokeswoman Mao Ning said on Friday.
Mao made the remarks after Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp, who just concluded his visit to China, reportedly said China has asked the Netherlands to relax export restrictions related to semiconductors.
"China has made it clear multiple times that the high degree of globalization of the semiconductor industry is a result of the choice by the market and companies," Mao told a regular news conference.
"For some time, individual countries have overstretched the concept of state security, abused export control and 'long-arm jurisdiction', and seriously threatened the stability of global supply chains," Mao said.
China hopes to work with the Netherlands and other members of the international community to maintain the stability of the global semiconductor supply chain, Mao added.
