Iran's FM says talks with US can play effective role in ensuring regional peace

TEHRAN - Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said on Monday that the ongoing indirect talks with the United States "can play an effective role in ensuring peace, stability, and calm" in the West Asia region, Iran's official news agency IRNA reported.
He made the remarks in an address to reporters on the sidelines of an international forum in Tehran while elaborating on his trilateral meeting a day earlier with his Omani and Qatari counterparts.
Araghchi said the regional countries have a positive attitude towards the Iran-US negotiations.
He stressed the importance of regional support for the talks and attempts to resolve the differences between the two sides, saying that among issues of common concern for all regional countries, the foremost is to ensure calm, peace, and stability in the broader region.
Facilitated by Oman, the Iranian and US delegations have so far held four rounds of indirect talks on Tehran's nuclear program and the lifting of US sanctions.
Elaborating on Tehran's demands and red lines in the talks, Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht Ravanchi said on Monday that Iran would insist on its right to uranium enrichment as stipulated in the Non-Proliferation Treaty, to which the country is a member.
