Electric vehicle driver Li Jianlin expressed his amazement at the charging speed at the State Grid supercharging station on May 10, "It took less than 10 minutes to fully charge—just like refueling a gasoline car," he said.

Ahead of the May Day holiday, Zhejiang's first State Grid "Chaoji" supercharging station officially opened in Yaozhuang town, Jiashan county, Jiaxing city in Zhejiang province. Equipped with 640-kilowatt ultra-high-power facilities, the station marks a major step toward achieving "refueling-speed" charging for electric vehicles.

The station features eight liquid-cooled chargers forming a multi-level energy matrix: one 600-ampere ultra-fast charger, one 400-ampere fast charger and six 250-ampere standard chargers. Combined with eight existing direct current (DC) chargers, it offers a "1+8+8" configuration that can serve up to 16 vehicles simultaneously. Drivers can choose different charging levels based on their vehicle's needs, balancing speed and safety.

"This station redefines the EV charging experience," said Tian Yuan from the State Grid Jiaxing Power Supply Company. Using the national supercharging standard, the system cuts single charging times to under 10 minutes and adds up to 400 kilometers of range, three times faster than conventional fast chargers. The station is expected to deliver 850,000 kilowatt-hours annually, reducing CO₂ emissions by about 850 tons.

Key to this leap in performance is advanced liquid-cooling technology, which keeps charging cable temperatures below 85 degrees Celsius, enabling stable high-current output for continuous, all-day operation. An intelligent power distribution system automatically adjusts output based on battery status and grid load, with up to 400-kilowatt delivered to compatible 800V high-voltage vehicles—no manual input needed.

As part of Jiaxing's ongoing push to enhance public charging infrastructure, the supercharging station reflects the city's commitment to smarter, faster, and more accessible EV services. By the end of 2024, Jiaxing had 176,000 EVs and 178,000 chargers—achieving a nearly 1:1 vehicle-to-charger ratio, among the highest in Zhejiang province. State Grid Jiaxing aims to create a convenient "five-minute urban, half-hour rural" charging network to support the growing demand.
