Russia, Ukraine swap 205 prisoners each
Russia and Ukraine each released 205 captured soldiers in a swap mediated by the United Arab Emirates, both sides said on Tuesday, in the fifth prisoner-of-war exchange this year. "Today, Ukraine has brought back 205 warriors," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on Telegram. Russia also reported the exchange. "As a result of negotiations, 205 Russian servicemen were returned," the Russian army said. "In exchange, 205 prisoners of war of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were handed over."

2nd warplane falls off ship into sea
A multimillion-dollar US warplane was lost in the Red Sea on Tuesday after tipping off the flight deck of the Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier, in the second such incident in about a week, two US officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity. The officials said the two-seater F/A-18F Super Hornet fighter jet failed to come to a proper halt after landing on the carrier. Both members of the crew ejected and were rescued by a helicopter, one of the officials said. The incident was first reported by CNN. Last week, another fighter jet fell overboard from the aircraft carrier, in an accident that injured one sailor.

Drones target naval base, says military
Sudan's army said its antiaircraft systems intercepted drones targeting a naval base in the wartime capital Port Sudan on Wednesday. Explosions were heard in the city, though it was not immediately clear whether they were near the Flamingo base. Port Sudan has been hit by days of assaults — including reported drone strikes by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces — that have torched the country's biggest fuel depots and damaged its main gateway for humanitarian aid. The city had enjoyed relative calm since the conflict between the army and the RSF broke out in April 2023.

Man arrested for Tokyo knife attack
A man was apprehended in Tokyo after an alleged knife attack on the subway system on Wednesday that injured several people, Japanese media reported. The Tokyo Metro's Namboku line was suspended after the incident, public broadcaster NHK and other local media outlets reported. NHK said several people had been injured, though the severity of their wounds was not immediately clear. The reports, citing police, said officers were alerted at about 7 pm that a knife-wielding man had been seen at Todaimae Station in central Tokyo.
