Top legislator calls for full enforcement of Forest Law
China's top legislator Zhao Leji emphasized on Tuesday the need to thoroughly study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization and ensure the full and effective enforcement of the Forest Law.
Zhao, chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, made the remarks at the first plenary meeting of the NPC's law enforcement inspection team on the Forest Law.
The move aims to provide legal safeguards for protecting, cultivating and rationally utilizing forest resources, maintaining forest ecological security, promoting high-quality development of forestry, and advancing the building of a Beautiful China, he said.
Zhao called on governments at all levels and relevant departments toseverely punish illegal activities that damage forest resources or infringe on the rights of forest farmers.
He stressed enhancing the targeted and practical effectiveness of the inspection by engaging with grassroots communities, listening to opinions from all sides, and proposing practical suggestions.
Qualitative, quantitative economic growth sought
Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang has called for efforts to deepen the understanding and implementation of Xi Jinping Thought on Economy, and strengthen the centralized and unified leadership of the Communist Party of China Central Committee over economic work, in order to advance Chinese modernization comprehensively through high-quality development.
Ding made the remarks on Tuesday at a seminar on studying the first volume of the selected works of Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, on economy.
Ding highlighted the need to fully and faithfully apply the new development philosophy, accelerate the building of a new development paradigm, comprehensively deepen reforms, and foster new quality productive forces tailored to local conditions to achieve both qualitative and quantitative economic growth.
Efforts should be made to better balance development and security by maintaining a strategic focus, seeking progress while ensuring stability, and strengthening systemic thinking, he said.
