Former Japanese PM: Japan should redefine its position and role in Asia instead of aligning with the US

Former Japanese prime minister Yukio Hatoyama told China Daily in an exclusive interview that although Japan has largely pursued a national strategy of aligning with the United States, domestic voices in Japan have begun questioning this strategic direction. "There is growing reflection on whether Japan, as an Asian nation, should redefine its position and role in the region. I believe Japan must actively work toward such a recalibration."
