China convened its 2025 national conference on the response to trade frictions in Beijing from Thursday to Friday, aiming to improve trade resilience and dispute resolution mechanisms, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

Amid a new round of trade tensions, after the United States recently raised tariffs on multiple trade partners, including China, the two-day gathering focused on assessing efforts since 2024 and setting priorities for the rest of this year, the ministry said in an online statement.

Vice-Minister of Commerce Yan Dong attended the meeting. The conference said China has entered a new stage marked by escalating trade frictions.

In the face of mounting challenges, policymakers emphasized the importance of strengthening confidence, maintaining a strategic focus and adopting a well-calibrated approach, said the statement.

The ministry said the meeting stressed the need to turn crises into opportunities, adapt to global shifts and explore new pathways for economic development.

The conference also highlighted efforts to prevent and mitigate trade risks to support the high-quality development of the country's foreign trade sector.
