Democratic oversight over Yangtze eco-environmental conservation emphasized
China's top political adviser Wang Huning urged on Wednesday solid efforts to strengthen democratic oversight over the eco-environmental conservation of the Yangtze River.
Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee, made the remarks at a seminar attended by leaders of non-CPC political parties and personages without party affiliation.
With the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) concluding this year, all tasks related to democratic oversight over eco-environmental conservation of the Yangtze River must be completed with high quality, Wang said.
He called on non-CPC political parties and personages without party affiliation to give full play to the unique strengths of consultative oversight and offer pragmatic opinions and suggestions.
Efforts and resources should focus on the most critical, urgent and prominent issues to make democratic oversight more targeted and effective, Wang said.
He also urged efforts to review and assess the effectiveness of democratic oversight over the ecological and environmental protection of the Yangtze River and plan for a new round of special oversight.
Li Ganjie, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, presided over the seminar.
Leaders of the eight non-CPC parties and a representative of personages without party affiliation also delivered remarks at the seminar.
Vice-premier urges efforts to enhance employment of college graduates
Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang urged on Wednesday efforts to enhance the employment of college graduates and ensure stable employment among young people, during a video conference on promoting young people's employment and entrepreneurship.
Ding stressed the need to make every effort to increase job opportunities and fully promote highquality and sufficient employment for college graduates.
There should be a greater focus on expanding positions in key areas and industries, and developing new employment opportunities through industrial development, he said.
Ding also called for efforts to be made to stabilize and increase jobs at the grassroots level in urban and rural areas, and strengthen supportive policies, to ensure that college graduates can stay and do their work well.
Vice-president: China firmly committed to advancing high-level opening-up
Vice-President Han Zheng met with HSBC Group Chairman Mark Tucker in Beijing on Wednesday.
Han said that in a world full of uncertainties, China is firmly committed to advancing high-level openingup and supporting multilateralism.
The healthy and stable development of the relationship between China and the United Kingdom benefits both sides and adds certainty to the world, Han said, expressing his hope that HSBC Group will continue to deepen its presence in China and contribute to the development of China-UK and China-Europe relations.
Tucker said the HSBC Group is full of confidence in the prospects of China's economic development and is willing to actively promote the long-term and stable development of UK-China relations.
