Anyone who "plays with fire" on the Taiwan question will get themselves burned, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Wednesday.

Guo made the remarks after reports quoted the Philippines' military chief Romeo Brawner as saying that the Philippines will "inevitably" be involved "if something happens to Taiwan".

Guo responded: "We advise the relevant people on the Philippine side to avoid making provocations or playing with fire over the Taiwan question."

The Taiwan question is China's domestic affairs, and the core of China's core interests, Guo said.

"How to solve the Taiwan question is the business for the Chinese people themselves, and does not allow for interference from others," he said.
