China, United Kingdom pledge to join efforts to address climate change
Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang met on Monday with Ed Miliband, the United Kingdom's Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, in Beijing. The two sides agreed to enhance cooperation in jointly addressing climate change.
Ding, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said that developing stable and mutually beneficial relations between China and the UK serves the common interests of the two peoples, facilitates global economic growth and promotes joint efforts to address global challenges.
China is ready to work with the UK to earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of both countries, consolidate the momentum for improvement and development of bilateral ties, deepen cooperation in areas such as financial services, trade and investment, and low-carbon development, and jointly address climate change to better benefit the people of both countries and the world, he added.
Miliband said the UK government sincerely hopes to enhance engagement with China, is committed to developing a long-term and constructive bilateral relationship, and stands ready to strengthen cooperation with China on energy security and in addressing climate change.
Vice-president stresses commitment to boosting Sino-UK cooperation
Vice-President Han Zheng emphasized China's commitment to strengthening cooperation with the United Kingdom and highlighted their economic complementarities and vast potential during his meeting on Tuesday with Lord Mayor of London Alastair King in Beijing.
Han said that London is a world-renowned financial center that has made positive contributions to China-UK cooperation in the financial, economic and trade fields.
China and the UK are both major economies, and they enjoy highly complementary and broad prospects for cooperation, he said.
Han said that China's domestic and foreign policies will remain consistent no matter how the world changes, and China is willing to work with the UK as a strategic partner to strengthen communication and cooperation, promote a multipolar world and economic globalization, implement the important consensus reached between their leaders, and bring more benefits to the two countries and the world.
King said that the UK and China have vast potential for cooperation in the green economy, sustainable finance and renewable energy. He welcomed more Chinese companies to do business in London while pledging to provide full support and convenience in this regard.
