BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN -- A Bruneian minister has said that 135 websites have been legally blocked over the past five years for containing immoral elements and violating the Internet Code of Practice.

Pengiran Shamhary, minister of transport and info-communications, told Brunei's legislative council on Tuesday that since 2024, 82 fraudulent websites and 557 phone numbers have been blocked as part of ongoing efforts to combat cyber threats and online scams.

The minister outlined key actions implemented to curb scams, including continuous efforts to block fraudulent websites and phone numbers used for scams, in collaboration with the Royal Brunei Police Force, Unified National Networks and telecommunication service providers.

Additionally, Cyber Security Brunei held a cybersecurity conference workshop involving enforcement agencies and local banks to explore technological solutions to monitor and combat online scams.

In recent years, the Bruneian government has placed significant emphasis on enhancing the cybersecurity environment to safeguard the interests of its citizens.
