Ex-president charged over alleged coup plot
Brazil's prosecutor-general has filed criminal charges against former president Jair Bolsonaro and his allies, accusing them of conspiring to overturn the results of the 2022 presidential election. In a legal filing with the Federal Supreme Court on Tuesday, Prosecutor-General Paulo Gonet alleged that Bolsonaro not only took part in the coup plot but was also aware of and approved an assassination attempt against President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Investigators recover plane's black boxes
Canadian investigators said on Tuesday they recovered the so-called black boxes from a jet that flipped upside down upon landing in windy conditions a day earlier at Toronto's Pearson Airport, injuring 21 of the 80 people on board. Investigators from the Transportation Safety Board were leading the probe to figure out why the CRJ900 aircraft, operated by Delta Air Line's Endeavor Air subsidiary, went belly up on Monday at the country's largest airport.

UN nuclear watchdog chief visits Fukushima
The UN nuclear watchdog chief visited Japan's stricken Fukushima plant on Wednesday, the day after Tokyo approved an energy plan that marks a return to nuclear power. As International Atomic Energy Agency's head Rafael Grossi arrived in Japan on Tuesday, the cabinet adopted a plan to increase reliance on nuclear power to help meet growing energy demand from artificial intelligence and microchip factories.
