BRUSSELS -- Two metro lines in central Brussels were suspended Wednesday morning following a shooting near Clemenceau station in the city's southwest, authorities said.

The incident, reported at around 6:15 am local time (0515 GMT), involved at least two armed men near the station entrance, as captured by CCTV footage.

Authorities confirmed an exchange of fire, but details remain limited. No injuries have been reported so far.

Metro services on lines 2 and 6, running between Gare de l'Ouest and Trone near the European Parliament, were suspended. Security measures were heightened, leading to the temporary closure of Clemenceau station and Brussels-Midi, a major transport hub serving Eurostar trains.

The shooting is not linked to terrorism, said Guy Sablon, spokesperson for Brussels public transport operator STIB.

Police have launched an operation to identify and apprehend those involved, while an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
