Thailand has cut off electricity supply to its border areas with Myanmar that are suspected to be shelters for scammers, the government announced Tuesday.

The order by Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai aims to tackle the pervasive illegal activities of human traffickers who take Thailand as a transit spot. The electricity cutoff would target Shwe Kokko and KK Park — two suspected major shelters for call centers that are both located in Myawaddy, Myanmar.
