Prosecutors indict Yoon for insurrection
The Republic of Korea's prosecutors indicted President Yoon Suk-yeol on Sunday on charges of leading an insurrection with his short-lived imposition of martial law on Dec 3, the main opposition party said."The prosecution has decided to indict Yoon Suk-yeol, who is facing charges of being a ringleader of insurrection," Democratic Party spokesman Han Min-soo told a news conference. "The punishment of the ringleader of insurrection now begins finally." Yoon's lawyers had urged the prosecutors to immediately release him from what they called illegal custody. Under criminal investigation, Yoon has been in custody since his arrest on Jan 15.

70 killed in attack on hospital, WHO says
An attack on the main hospital in El-Fasher, a town in western Sudan, has killed 70 people and wounded 19 others, the World Health Organization chief said on Sunday. "The appalling attack on Saudi Hospital in El-Fasher … led to 19 injuries and 70 deaths among patients and companions," WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a post on X. "At the time of the attack, the hospital was packed with patients receiving care," he added. The conflict between Sudan's army and the Rapid Support Forces, which broke out in April 2023, has killed tens of thousands, driven millions from their homes and plunged half of the population into hunger.

Strategic cruise missile test-fired
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea conducted a sea-to-surface strategic cruise missile test on Saturday under the supervision of its top leader to beef up its defense capabilities amid the latest military provocations by the United States and the Republic of Korea, the official Korean Central News Agency reported. The test saw strategic cruise missiles precisely hitting preset targets after traveling the 1,500-kilometer-long elliptical and eight-shaped flight orbits for 7,507 to 7,511 seconds, with no negative impact on the security of the neighboring countries, said the report.
