Healthcare CEO's killing shines light on troubled US system

The fatal shooting of the UnitedHealthcare CEO has raised widespread concern in society. Why did the killing of an executive cause such an uproar?

As the only country in the developed world without universal health insurance, the US healthcare system is expensive. How expensive is it? The total annual spending on global healthcare is about $10 trillion, and the US alone contributes $5 trillion to it.

If the US healthcare sector were an independent economy, it would be the third largest in the world, with a "GDP" behind the US and China and higher than that of Germany and Japan.

In a study of the performance of healthcare systems in 10 developed countries, including the US, Australia and the UK, the United States ranked at the bottom, and the gap was stark when compared with the top nine countries. Watch the video below to see what led to this.
