China, Kazakhstan to strengthen legislative exchanges

China's top legislator Zhao Leji and top political adviser Wang Huning met separately in Beijing on Monday with Maulen Ashimbayev, chairperson of the Senate of Kazakhstan.

Describing the two countries as good neighbors, friends and partners, Zhao, chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, said that China is willing to work with Kazakhstan to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and promote new progress in the permanent comprehensive strategic partnership.

He expressed the hope that the legislative institutions of both countries will strengthen exchanges and cooperation to provide legal safeguards for Belt and Road cooperation and practical cooperation in various fields.

Ashimbayev said the Kazakh Senate is willing to enhance exchanges and mutual learning with the NPC and play an active role in deepening bilateral relations.

Wang, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said in his meeting with Ashimbayev that the top political advisory body is ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Kazakh institutions to better serve the construction of their respective countries and the development of bilateral ties.

Vice-premier stresses technological breakthroughs

Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang, who is also director of the Central Science and Technology Commission, has stressed that China should leverage the new system for mobilizing resources nationwide to achieve breakthroughs in core technologies in key fields.

Speaking at a national conference held in Beijing on Monday on work related to science and technology, Ding said that as China is striving to be a leading country in science and technology by 2035, solid efforts must be made step by step to turn this blueprint into reality.

Ding also said all-out efforts are needed to implement major sci-tech tasks, boost China's strength in strategic science and technology, and deepen sci-tech cooperation to build mutually beneficial partnerships.
