78,000 economic criminal cases solved
Chinese police cracked 78,000 economic criminal cases in 2024, which involved more than 800 billion yuan ($111.30 billion), according to a Ministry of Public Security statement on Tuesday. Notably, a special campaign was launched targeting the use of offshore companies and underground banks to transfer illicit funds abroad. More than 3,000 relevant cases were probed, which led to a number of transfer channels for such funds being cut off, the ministry said. Special campaigns were also launched last year to combat the counterfeiting of currency and invoices, as well as to tackle insurance fraud, tax-related crimes, illegal fundraising, pyramid schemes and corruption within private enterprises, according to the statement.
Center to promote wildlife protection
The Northeast China Tiger and Leopard Culture International Communication Center was launched on Monday in Jilin province, as authorities aim to cast a spotlight on wildlife conservation. Established through a partnership between the management bureau of Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park and Jishi Media, a media corporation based in Jilin, the center will use rare footage of tigers, leopards and other wildlife collected through the park's monitoring system to promote conservation awareness. The content has been shared across global social media platforms to engage a wider audience, the center said. China officially established Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park in 2021.
