Xi extends congratulations to Uruguayan president-elect
President Xi Jinping extended congratulations on Wednesday to Yamandu Orsi on his election as president of Uruguay.
In his congratulatory message, Xi said that China and Uruguay are good friends who trust each other and good partners who cooperate with each other for win-win results.
Xi said that in the 36 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, China and the South American nation have adhered to mutual respect and equality, engaged in mutually beneficial cooperation, and firmly supported each other on issues concerning their core interests.
He added that he highly values the development of China-Uruguay ties and is ready to work with Orsi to carry forward the two countries' friendship.
On the same day, Vice-President Han Zheng extended congratulations to Carolina Cosse on her election as vice-president of Uruguay.
Top legislator pledges deeper cooperation with Spain
China's top legislator Zhao Leji made an official goodwill visit to Spain from Saturday to Wednesday.
Zhao, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, met in Madrid with Spanish King Felipe VI and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, and held talks with Pedro Rollan, president of the Spanish Senate, and Francina Armengol, speaker of the Spanish Congress of Deputies, during the five-day visit.
He expressed China's commitment to advancing China-Spain relations and fostering a relationship that supports the steady, long-term growth of China-Europe ties.
